Part 5 · Lesson 24 of 25 · Pro

Three's a crowd: multiplayer pots

Aces win 85% of the time against one opponent and only 49% against five who all stay to the showdown. With more players in the pot, every hand's equity falls and the strength needed to win rises.

The hand

You raise with A♠ A♥ and five players call: the Calling station, the Loose-aggressive player, the Maniac, the Tight-aggressive player and the Rock. Everyone will stay to the showdown.

Predict first

Against five opponents who all see the showdown, how often do aces win?

  1. About 85%
  2. About two thirds
  3. About half

Formula

Fair share with n players = 1 ÷ n; strong hands earn more than their fair share, weak ones less
