Part 3 · Lesson 17 of 25 · Pro

The road to poker: several streets

Pot 10 bb, stacks 45 bb, three streets to go: bet 58% of the pot each time and the last bet is exactly all in. Bet 30% and then 44%, and the river leaves you shoving 35 bb into a 30 bb pot. Real hands have several betting rounds, and each bet sets up the next.

The hand

Flop. You have a set of sixes. The pot is 10 bb, both stacks are 45 bb, and the Tight-aggressive player will call bets of a normal size.

Predict first

You want all 45 bb in by the river. Which plan gets there without a huge last bet?

  1. A third of the pot on the flop and the turn, then all in
  2. The same share of the pot on every street
  3. All in now

Formula

Same fraction f each street: pot × (1 + 2f)^n = pot + 2 × stack
