Part 3 · Lesson 12 of 25 · Pro

Heads-up with high blinds: jam or fold

At 10 bb, K♦ 7♣ in the small blind: whenever the Rock calls you are behind, yet moving all in earns 0.9 bb more than folding. With short stacks the game shrinks to two choices for the small blind, all in or fold, and the big blind calls or folds.

The hand

Heads-up with 10 bb stacks. You are in the small blind with K♦ 7♣. The Rock, in the big blind, calls an all-in only with about the best 12% of hands: 66+, A7s+, KTs+, A9o+ and KQo.

Predict first

All in or fold?

  1. All in
  2. Fold: K7 is too weak
  3. Fold: he only calls with better hands

Formula

EV of jamming compared with folding, stacks S bb, blinds 0.5 and 1: P(fold) × 1.5 + P(call) × [equity × 2S − (S − 0.5)]
