KK vs AQ odds: pocket kings against ace-queen

Pocket kings (K♠ K♦) win 71.4% of the time against ace-queen (A♥ Q♣), lose 28.2% and tie 0.3%, all in before the flop. Equity: 71.6% to 28.4%.

Counted exactly over all 1,712,304 boards, not simulated. Equity counts a tie as half a win.

Why KK is the favourite

The pair is between the two cards of ace-queen: one card is higher (three outs to pass the pair), the other is lower and only helps through straights or two pair. With three live outs instead of six, the pair is a clear favourite, about seven times in ten.

What it means for a call

An all-in call is right when your share of the pot is at least the price. With 28.4% equity, ace-queen needs the pot to offer at least 2.5 to 1 to call against exactly pocket kings. In real hands nobody shows their cards: compare your equity against the whole range of hands that would bet this way, in the equity calculator or the preflop odds chart.

Suits change the numbers by a point or two: shared suits take flushes away from one hand. These are the suits shown above.
