KK vs QQ odds: pocket kings against pocket queens

Pocket kings (K♥ K♦) win 81.1% of the time against pocket queens (Q♠ Q♣), lose 18.6% and tie 0.4%, all in before the flop. Equity: 81.2% to 18.8%.

Counted exactly over all 1,712,304 boards, not simulated. Equity counts a tie as half a win.

Why KK is the favourite

This is an overpair against an underpair. The pocket queens need to improve: mostly by hitting one of the two cards left of their rank (a set), and now and then a straight or a flush. Five cards give two outs about one time in five, which is why the bigger pair wins about four times in five.

What it means for a call

An all-in call is right when your share of the pot is at least the price. With 18.8% equity, pocket queens needs the pot to offer at least 4.3 to 1 to call against exactly pocket kings. In real hands nobody shows their cards: compare your equity against the whole range of hands that would bet this way, in the equity calculator or the preflop odds chart.

Suits change the numbers by a point or two: shared suits take flushes away from one hand. These are the suits shown above.
