AQ vs KJ odds: ace-queen against king-jack

Ace-queen (A♥ Q♦) wins 62.4% of the time against king-jack (K♣ J♠), loses 37.2% and ties 0.4%, all in before the flop. Equity: 62.6% to 37.4%.

Counted exactly over all 1,712,304 boards, not simulated. Equity counts a tie as half a win.

Why AQ is the favourite

The cards interleave: ace-queen has the best card, king-jack has the second and fourth. Each hand has live outs, so the edge comes only from the higher top card, close to 60% to 40%.

What it means for a call

An all-in call is right when your share of the pot is at least the price. With 37.4% equity, king-jack needs the pot to offer at least 1.7 to 1 to call against exactly ace-queen. In real hands nobody shows their cards: compare your equity against the whole range of hands that would bet this way, in the equity calculator or the preflop odds chart.

Suits change the numbers by a point or two: shared suits take flushes away from one hand. These are the suits shown above.
