AK vs AQ odds: ace-king against ace-queen
Ace-king (A♥ K♦) wins 71.7% of the time against ace-queen (A♣ Q♠), loses 23.7% and ties 4.6%, all in before the flop. Equity: 74.0% to 26.0%.
Counted exactly over all 1,712,304 boards, not simulated. Equity counts a tie as half a win.
Why AK is the favourite
This is domination: both hands share a card, so the shared rank rarely decides anything, and ace-queen needs its weaker card to pair (three outs) without ace-king pairing its better one. Its kicker is beaten whenever both hands pair the shared card. The dominating hand wins about three times in four.
What it means for a call
An all-in call is right when your share of the pot is at least the price. With 26.0% equity, ace-queen needs the pot to offer at least 2.8 to 1 to call against exactly ace-king. In real hands nobody shows their cards: compare your equity against the whole range of hands that would bet this way, in the equity calculator or the preflop odds chart.
Suits change the numbers by a point or two: shared suits take flushes away from one hand. These are the suits shown above.
